Getting started
The basics — installing, signing in, and tapping Connect for the first time.
How do I install Cove?
Cove is on the App Store. Open it on your iPhone, search for Cove, and tap Get. You'll need iOS 17 or later.
The first time you tap Connect, iOS will ask for permission to add a VPN configuration. That's expected — Cove uses Apple's official VPN system. Tap Allow.
Cove won't connect. What do I check?
- Make sure you have a working internet connection (try opening a website in Safari first).
- Open Cove and tap Connect again — sometimes the first attempt times out on slow Wi-Fi.
- If it still fails, go to Settings → Reset VPN profile in Cove, then try Connect once more. This rebuilds the VPN configuration on your phone.
- If you're on a school, work, or hotel network that blocks VPNs, switch to cellular data and try again. Cove uses port 443, but some networks block all VPN traffic regardless.
- Still stuck? Email sebastian@visiblemediaco.com with your iOS version and roughly when it last worked.
I forgot my password.
Email sebastian@visiblemediaco.com from the address you signed up with. We'll verify it's you and send a reset link. Self-service password reset is rolling out in a future update.
If you used Sign in with Apple, there's no password — just tap Sign in with Apple and Apple handles the rest.
Will Cove drain my battery?
Cove uses WireGuard, the most efficient VPN protocol available on iOS. In normal use you'll see a few percentage points of extra battery use per day — about the same as having an extra messaging app installed. iOS handles the tunnel as a system service, so it doesn't keep your phone awake.
Subscription & billing
Apple handles the money. Here's how to manage it.
How do I cancel my subscription?
All Cove subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. To cancel:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Cove, then Cancel Subscription.
You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. We can't cancel for you — Apple controls subscriptions — but if you have trouble, email us and we'll walk you through it.
Where's my receipt?
Apple sends receipts directly. Search your email for "Your receipt from Apple" — it'll be from no_reply@email.apple.com. You can also see all your purchases at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I want a refund.
Refunds for App Store purchases are issued by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find Cove, and request a refund. Apple typically responds within 48 hours.
If you tell us why you weren't happy, we read every note — even the harsh ones. Email us.
How does the 7-day free trial work?
The trial starts when you tap to subscribe. You won't be charged until day 7. To avoid being charged, cancel any time before day 7 from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. You'll keep trial access until the trial period ends.
If you've already used a Cove free trial in the past, Apple won't let you start a new one — that's an Apple rule, not ours.
Can I switch from monthly to annual (or back)?
Yes. In the Cove app, open the paywall again and pick the other plan, or go to Settings → Subscriptions → Cove on your iPhone and change plan there. Apple credits the unused time on your current plan toward the new one.
Modes & features
What's the difference between the five modes?
- Everyday. The default — quiet, always-on protection.
- Safe Dating. Tuned for the apps where strangers can pinpoint your location. Hides your IP from dating-app data leaks.
- Night Out. Extra coverage for going out — keeps your real location off every app while you're out.
- Hide from Ex. Uses a consistent decoy egress so anyone watching for changes in your IP can't tell when you're moving.
- Travel. Optimised for hotel and airport Wi-Fi.
You can switch modes any time from the main screen. They all use the same encryption — the difference is in routing and which protections are emphasised.
What is Quiet Web?
Quiet Web is an optional toggle in Settings. When it's on, Cove blocks ads, trackers, and the data brokers trying to build a profile on you, at the network level. It's off by default — flick it on when you want a quieter internet, off if a site looks broken.
Where do I take the Safety Score quiz?
It's free and doesn't need an account — open the app and tap the Safety Score widget on the main screen, or go to coveprivacy.com and tap "Check your safety score."
Account & privacy
How do I delete my account?
Open Cove → Settings → Delete account. Confirm. Your account is closed immediately and your VPN access is revoked. Personal data is wiped within 30 days. The deletion is irreversible — if you sign up again later, it's a fresh account.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel your Apple subscription. Cancel it separately in Settings → Subscriptions on your iPhone, otherwise Apple will keep billing you.
What does Cove keep about me?
Short answer: only what's needed to run the service safely. Account info, sign-in IPs, connection events, and a 7-day DNS log (the domains your account resolved through Cove — not the content, not the URLs after the domain). We don't sell, rent, or share any of it.
The full detail is in our privacy policy, in plain English.
Does Cove work with my dating apps / banking app / Netflix?
Yes for almost everything. Cove tunnels all your traffic, so apps just see a different IP address. A small number of streaming services (mostly outside the US) check for VPN usage and may show an error — try toggling Cove off, watching, then back on.
If a specific app stops working only when Cove is on, tell us which one. We keep a list and look for fixes.
Can I use Cove on my iPad or other devices?
For now Cove is iPhone-only. iPad and Mac support are on the roadmap. Android is being scoped after iOS launch is stable.
Is Cove a "no-logs" VPN?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. We keep a 7-day DNS log (domains only — never URLs or content) for abuse prevention and platform safety, plus sign-in IPs and connection events as described in our privacy policy. We think being honest about this is more useful than the "no-logs" promises competitors make and can't actually keep.
Something else
I want to give feedback.
Inside the app: Settings → Send feedback. Or just email us. We read every message — the kind ones and the brutal ones — and the brutal ones usually become the next update.
I'm a creator interested in partnering with Cove.
Email sebastian@visiblemediaco.com with your handle, audience size, and the kind of content you make. We have a referral program for the right fits.
I think I found a security issue.
Thank you. Please email sebastian@visiblemediaco.com with the details. Don't post it publicly until we've had a chance to fix it. We'll acknowledge within 48 hours.
Still stuck?
Email sebastian@visiblemediaco.com. Tell us what's happening and your iPhone model + iOS version if it's a connection issue.
